David Herrera: cineasta y politólogo
Career path

In 2024, I participated in the “Leadership x Bogotá” program at the School of Government of Universidad de los Andes, focusing on training leaders committed to the city’s development. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about the intersection of culture and politics, leading projects that address diverse social issues through a narrative and strategic approach. I firmly believe that stories can transform lives, and each of my projects is designed to inspire, connect, and drive meaningful change in the country.

As a filmmaker, my work focuses on exploring key political issues (democracy, state, nation, reconciliation), the reconstruction of memory, and human rights. I believe in cinema’s power to tell stories that inspire reflection, dialogue, and action, bridging local realities with global audiences. My films and television series have been showcased at numerous national and international film festivals and have been nominated for the India Catalina Awards and the TAL Latin America Awards.

Currently, I am the Executive Director of Fahrenheit, a Colombian production company specializing in political cinema, and I also lead Fundación República, an NGO dedicated to building more equitable and resilient communities, emphasizing cultural and social empowerment. In this framework, I work with vulnerable populations, including victims of violence and youth from ethnic communities, developing programs that promote their empowerment and education. My commitment also extends to initiatives aimed at combating gender-based violence and child marriage, seeking to transform realities through education and social change.

My Leadership Vision

I believe in leadership that listens, connects, and acts. My commitment is to solutions that combine efficiency, justice, and sustainability, always prioritizing people and their needs. Throughout my career, I have sought to be a bridge between ideas and action, inspiring others to actively participate in building a better future. For me, effective leadership not only inspires but also invites collective action. I firmly believe that each individual plays a vital role in constructing a better future, and my mission is to create spaces where such participation is possible, meaningful, and transformative. My vision is for inclusive leadership that reflects the diversity of voices and experiences in our society, driving solutions that benefit everyone and leaving a lasting positive impact.

A Commitment to Transformation

Every project I lead—whether in film, politics, or social innovation—aims to transform not just ideas, but lives. I am convinced that real progress begins within communities and that the impact of any action is measured by the difference it makes in people’s lives. I firmly believe that true progress lies in the balance of security, equity, and culture.

Through a society where justice and sustainability are priorities, and where every individual finds the necessary opportunities to thrive, we can build a more inclusive and resilient future. Culture should not only reflect our identity but also serve as a driving force for economic and social development. My work, both in creative and social spheres, is committed to this vision: a country where stories transform lives and where every action—from education to innovation—contributes to collective well-being and a stronger, more vibrant nation.
